Xenon

Chemical reactions

Reaction of xenon with acids

Xenon does not react with acids.

Reaction of xenon with air

Xenon does not react with air.

Reaction of xenon with bases

Xenon does not react with bases.

Reaction of xenon with halogens

Xenon can be brought to react with fluorine, F2 [4]:

Xe(g) + 2 F2(g) XeF4(s), mix gasses at 400 °C then cool to -78 °C
Xe(g) + F2(g) XeF2(s)
Xe(g) + 3 F2(g) XeF6(s)

The xenon fluorides are used for synthesis of other xenon compounds [4].

Reaction of xenon with the water

Xenon does not react with water but dissolves slightly; approximately 108.1 cm3/kg at 20 °C [1].
