Xenon

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Xenon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas [5].

Occurrence

In nature, xenon is found in the Earth's atmosphere, 0.087 ppm (v/v), frequently found in gases from thermal springs [5, 8].

The isotopes found in nature are 124Xe (0.10 %, stable), 126Xe (0.09 %, stable), 128Xe (1.90 %, stable), 129Xe (26.4 %, stable), 130Xe (4.1 %, stable), 131Xe (21.2 %, stable), 132Xe (26.9 %, stable), 134Xe (10.4 %, stable) and , 136Xe (8.9 %, stable) [5].

Isolation

Xenon is produced by fractional distillation of liquid air [4, 8].
