Xenon

Biological properties

Inhalation

Due to the higher density of xenon compared to air, the speed of sound is slower than in air. This means that when inhaled, it will produce a lower voice pitch [8].

Xenon has been shown to have antiapoptotic activity by inhibiting the apoptotic activation of caspase-3 [6].

Xe(g) is a potent growth inhibitor for Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Tetrahymena thermophila at low pressure [7].
