DiscoveryThe element has been known since prehistoric times, but was not isolated until 1825, by the Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted. The isolated aluminium was impure. Pure aluminum was first isolated by the German chemist Friedrich Wöhler in 1827 [11].
Origin of nameFrom the Latin words alum and alumen meaning stringent. The name dates back to the early Romans calling any substance with a stringent taste alum [11].
