Molybdenum

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Silvery white metal as sheets/flakes, dark grey or black with metallic luster as powder [8].

Occurrence

Molybdenum is found in the Earth's crust, 1-1.5 ppm (w/w), in minerals such as molybdenite and wulfenite [8]. The isotopes found in nature are 92Mo (15.86 %, stable), 94Mo (9.12 %, stable), 95Mo (15.7 %, stable), 96Mo (16.5 %, stable), 97Mo (9.45 %, stable), 98Mo (23.75 %, stable) and 100Mo (9.62 %, stable)[8].

In pure form, molybdenum occur in a body-centered cubic lattice [8].
