Ingestion

Molybdenum is an essential trace element for humans. The Estimated Average Requirement for adults is set to 34 μg/day and the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) is set to 45 μg/day [9].

Toxicity

Molybdenum can be very toxic to certain types of animals, especially cattle and sheep. High intakes of molybdenum for these animals causes a secondary copper deficiency [9]. The effect of molybdenum, in the form of tetrathiomolybdate, has been used for treatment of Wilson disease, as it forms complexes with copper and proteins, thus preventing copper absorption [9].
