Magnesium

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Occurrence

In nature, magnesium is found in the Earth's crust, 2.1 %, sea water, animals and plants [7]. The element is found in magnesite, carnalite, dolomite, epsomite, kieserite and many other minerals [7]. The isotopes found in nature are 24Mg (78.70 %, stable), 25Mg (10.13 %, stable), and 26Mg (11.17 %, stable) [7].

In pure solid form, magnesium exist in a hexagonal close-packed structure [7]
