Ruthenium

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Occurrence

In nature, ruthenium is found in the Earth's crust, in minerals such as osmiridium and laurite, and in platinum ores and some nickel ores [5]. The isotopes found in nature are 96Ru (5.46 %, stable), 98Ru (1.87 %, stable), 99Ru (12.63 %, stable), 100Ru (12.53 %, stable), 101Ru (17.02 %, stable), 102Ru (31.6 %, stable) and 104Ru (18.87 %, stable) [5].

In pure solid form, ruthenium exist in close-packed hexagonal crystal structure [5]
