Platinum

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Silver-gray, lustrous, malleable and ductile metal [6].

Occurrence

In nature, platinum is found in the Earth's crust, ~0.01 ppm, as alloy with palladium, osmium, iridium, rhodium and ruthenium [6]. The isotopes found in nature are 190Pt (0.01 %, T½ = 6.9 · 1011 years), 192Pt (0.8 %, stable), 194Pt (32.9 %, stable), 195Pt (33.8 %, stable), 196Pt (25.2 %, stable) and 198Pd (7.2 %, stable) [6].

In pure solid form, platinum exist in face-centered cubic crystal structure [6]
