Nickel

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Lustrous, silvery white, hard, ferromagnetic metal [7].

Occurrence

In nature, nickel is found in the Earth's crust, 99 ppm, in minerals such as pyrrhostite, pentlandite, garnierite, niccolite and millerite [7]. The isotopes found in nature are 58Ni (68.27 %, stable), 60Ni (26.10 %, stable), 61Ni (1.13 %, stable), 62Ni (3.59 %, stable) and 64Ni (0.91 %, stable) [6].

In pure solid form, nickel exist in face-centered cubic form [7].
