DiscoveryThe element was discovered in hydrofluoric acid (HF) by the Swedish pharmacist and chemist Carl-Wilhelm Scheele in 1771. Fluorine was not isolated until 1886, this was done by the French pharmacist and chemist Henri Moissan [7].
Origin of nameFrom the Latin word fluere meaning flow or flux. The name is due to fluorite (CaF2) being used as a flux in metallurgy, because of its low melting point [7].
