Silicon

Amorphous silicon was discovered in 1824 by the Swedish chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius. Crystalline silicon was first prepared in 1854, by the French chemist Henri Sainte-Claire Deville [10].

From the Latin words silex and silicis, meaning flint [10].
