Discovery


The element was not discovered, but created in 2006 by bombarding atoms of 249Cf with ions of 48Ca, thus producing 294Og, an isotope with a half-life of about 0.89 milliseconds, and three free neutrons [3].

Origin of name


Named after Professor Yuri Oganessian in recognition of his pioneering contributions to transactinoid elements research [1,3]
