Iron

Occurrence, isolation & synthesis

Occurrence

In nature, iron is found in the Earth's crust, 5 %, in minerals such as hematite, magnetite, limonite and siderite. Also the Earth's core is believed to be mostly iron [6]. The isotopes found in nature are 54Fe (5.82 %, stable), 56Fe (91.66 %, stable), 57Fe (2.19 %, stable) and 58Fe (0.33 %, stable) [7].
